The Look and Life of a Real Lash Lounge…

Drum roll, please! We recently held our very first “Lash Look” photoshoot with real Lash Lounge guests as our models (whoop!, whoop!). Today, we’re overjoyed to share an inside look into the lash life of one of our lovely models, Paroma. See what this music-loving mother has to say about her lash transformation and how she’s applied her new look and confidence to her life. Let’s meet Paroma!

LIFE BEFORE LASHES

As a computer software professional in an office environment, it has always been important to Paroma to put her best foot forward each day; and that includes looking and feeling put together. Before answering our “Lash Look” model call, Paroma (who is also mom to a darling 5-year-old little boy) had never given lash extensions a go. And when it came to her daily beauty routine, she was no stranger to spending extra time each morning with those dreaded tasks of applying mascara and working to get her eyeliner on just right.

A CUSTOM LASH LOOK, PLUS THAT MIRROR MOMENT!

When the day finally arrived for Paroma to join us at our corporate training center in Southlake, Texas, the lash anticipation was high and excitement in the air! First, Paroma sat down with one of our uber talented corporate training stylists, Shelley, to chat about her desired lash look. Everything from her eye shape, lifestyle and natural eyelashes were all carefully considered in order to create her perfect, customized lash creation. To complement her beautiful, natural features and existing lashes, Shelley went with a volume natural application, silk lashes and a stunning D curl, giving Paroma the full, lush lash line she had her heart set on.

After her full set application was complete, it was time to lift the lash curtain and hand over the mirror for Paroma to feast her eyes on her lash transformation. Two words came to her mind when she first saw her new lashes: BRIGHT and BEAUTIFUL! She  just couldn’t believe how much the extensions enhanced her eyes, how much brighter her face looked and, of course, how beautiful her lashes made her look and feel!

A NEW LASH LIFE

Not long after the photoshoot, we checked in with Paroma to find out what she had been loving most about her new life with lashes. Did they add convenience to her daily beauty routine? Did they make her feel empowered and ready to conquer the day? We simply couldn’t wait to hear what she had to share!

Instantly Alive

After receiving her gorgeous full set of volume lashes, Paroma woke up every morning to a pleasant surprise she described as a “refreshed look” and that was without a stitch of makeup, too!

What Morning Makeup Routine?

Since Paroma has to get up at 6 a.m. and gets not only herself ready but also her son, this busy wife and mom has loved her new, simplified beauty routine thanks to lash extensions. She save loads of time since her eyes no longer need several coats of mascara or eyeliner. “Lip gloss is all I have needed,” she said.

Clothed in Lash Confidence

Another incredible part of Paroma’s lash transformation was the newfound confidence she gained. She shared “I’m more comfortable to feel natural on a daily basis.”

This is music to our ears because we love that she now has the ability to embrace her natural beauty in a way she has not done before.

Compliment City!

That extra confidence boost Paroma had also came from all of the compliments she was getting from family, friends and even strangers! “I got compliments for my eyes and lashes wherever I went and that helps make it worth to me.”

We seriously love that Paroma now feels like her eyes are more of a focal point and that they were literally “catching” other’s eyes, too!

LASHING EFFECTS

Since getting lash extensions, Paroma has felt even more inspired to try something new, set new goals and step outside of her comfort zone. Having lashes has helped her work towards those extra goals she has, both large and small!

Recently, Paroma took a step to do something for herself and be a part of a movement to empower women. How awesome is that?!

In her day-to-day life, she told us she’s been mindful to look to the women in her life for inspiration for encouragement in her own journey as a woman and working mom.

“I look to my mother as a role model. It’s impressive how she managed outside work and took care of us. I learn from her alot for my day to day activities.” Work, motherhood and just life in general is a lot to juggle for any woman, but thanks to the women around her plus her new lash life, Paroma can conquer it all!

When we planned this photoshoot, we definitely wanted to get gorgeous images of our lashes. But, just as important to us, we wanted to witness our guests’ lash transformations in all their uniqueness. It was our goal to capture the true beauty of each woman and how “beautiful” comes in all different ages, looks, shapes and styles. We are so thankful for Paroma and all of our stunning lash models for helping us do just that.

Stay tuned over the coming months as we share more of the wonder women behind our shoot…and how they’re living their best lives with LASHES!

3 Women To Watch Who Are Making A Difference

Raise your hand if you celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th. We did and we’re still feeling on top of the world and empowered, which is why we are excited to share three incredible women who are doing great things not only for other women, but for others around the world.

EMMA WATSON

We’ve known her for years as J. K. Rowling’s fictional character, Hermione, in Harry Potter, but did you know that actress Emma Watson is not only a talented British actress but also an ethical fashion pioneer, activist for women’s equality and UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador? It’s true!

Over the last few years, one of the many issues Emma has gotten people to think more about is where and how clothes are made. For years, she’s had a love for fashion, which then turned into a passion for supporting ethical and sustainable fashion. It was during her press tour for Beauty and the Beast in 2017 that she documented the lovely outfits she was wearing and also explained how each look was sourced and made. While each outfit may not have necessarily been practical for everyday life, she simply made a difference by bringing attention to problems in the fashion world and making people think before they shop.

A super cool moment (we still have on the brain) was when Emma attended the Met Gala in 2016 and turned heads when she wore a gown made from recycled plastic bottles. Yes, you read that right…recycled plastic bottles! She shared the vision behind the gown on her Facebook page: “Plastic is one of the biggest pollutants on the planet. Being able to repurpose this waste and incorporate it into my gown for the Met Gala proves the power that creativity, technology and fashion can have by working together.”

Thanks to Emma for shining the light on an issue and topic we should certainly think and learn more about! Want more about her recycled gown? We thought you did, so click here!

LARAYIA GASTON

Helping the homeless might not be what you would picture this beautiful woman having a passion for, but she does! In fact, Larayia Gaston has a non-profit organization called Lunch On Me, which has a sole mission to ending starvation all while focusing on the mind, body and spirit of the homeless in LA.

Reaching nearly 10,000 people a month, Larayia’s organization feeds the homeless on Skid Row. And it’s not just one meal a week, it’s six organic meals a week. Why organic? Larayia has said that she herself eats organic and when this idea came to her, she decided that these people deserve the same quality, nutritious food she was eating. It was then that she partnered with local businesses and restaurants to redistribute organic food that would ultimately be wasted.

Being a firm believer that healing includes self-love, Larayia, along with volunteers, sits, talks, listens and builds relationships with people. She has also helped to organize things like yoga classes and healing gatherings to further meet the needs of others and heal their minds, bodies and souls. She said, “We are revolutionizing unity and empowerment for those who are broken and in search for hope. We are using our light to shine on the often invisible.”

Talk about a being selfless…wow! If you want to learn more about Larayia’s mission, organization and even donate to Lunch On Me, you can do that by clicking here.

ASHLEY GRAHAM

Super model, judge from America’s Next Top Model, TV host and author are just a few of the accomplishments and projects Ashley Graham has taken part in over the years, but her true mission…advocating for self and body acceptance.

Over the years, Ashley has not been shy about showing her own body. In fact, she has used it as a tool to open the door and discuss subjects many women are self-conscious about such as weight, cellulite, clothing sizes and more. In interviews, Ashley has expressed that she does not like the term “plus size” because when that term is used, it instantly puts women in a category and assumption that they are not healthy, they eat poorly, they don’t exercise and don’t care as much about their bodies.

Even though she has graced the covers of magazines like Vogue, Elle and Glamour (to name a few), Ashley has not and will not allow herself and other women to be put in a category. At one point in her modeling career, she considered giving up her profession due to the insecurities and self-conscious feelings she had about her own body. Thanks to her mother, who told her that her body could change lives and help other women, she kept going and didn’t give up.

Since then she’s been paving the way for body positivity by embracing her own body and doing so with confidence. She also has not been afraid to take on the fashion industry and be a voice for real women, helping to redefine the global image of beauty. One of Ashley’s most inspiring speeches to date was when she made a moving TED Talk in 2015. Click here to see what she said, hear more about her story and how she became her very own role model.

We hope you found something inspiring about one, if not all three of these incredible women who are not afraid to take a stand and who are striving to make a change. As the saying goes, “Empowered women, empower women” and we certainly feel empowered after learning more about Emma, Larayia and Ashley!

10 Ways to Empower YOURSELF

As we are making our way through the new year, one goal we should all have  should not only be working to empower others, but also ourselves! See below for 10 ways you can empower yourself and start NOW!

1. Find your passion

Whether it’s art, academia, writing, tech, fashion, charity, animals, food, reading, etc find something that you love and care about. It may not happen overnight but vision boards and Pinterest are great tools to help you. When you find something you love you will be more committed and focused to giving your time to it accordingly. (via medium.com)

2. Don’t wait around…Take action

The surefire way to tell the difference between a regular team member and an empowered one is to see how they handle work. Empowered people don’t wait around for someone else to walk them through a challenge, they come up with an action plan to accomplish the task at hand. Own your job! (via jonschultz.com)

3. Kindness

Be consciously kinder to you. The more you do for you, the better you’ll feel. Each kindness will make you want more. It helps you focus on you and believe that you deserve good. Give yourself a break when you’re tired. Take a bath. Buy the lotion or coffee that costs a few dollars more than the cheap brand. Self-kindness can blossom into self-love from which self-empowerment can grow. (via beliefnet.com)

4. Tidy up

“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned.” – Benjamin Franklin

Steve Jobs began leading Apple in 1997 and then began one of the largest-scale cleanups in history. Within a year, Jobs had cancelled 70 percent of Apple’s products and turned a $1 billion loss into a $700 million profit. What soon followed was a series of ground-breaking and now-ubiquitous products: the iPod, iMac, iPhone, and iPad. You don’t have to re-make a multimillion-dollar company to start making improvements in your professional life. Begin with your office or home work space. Remember, there would be no iPhone without a clear space for its development. So clear out the clutter to make room for new ideas and innovations. (via cnbc.com)

5. Set the right kind of goals

The mother of one of my friends has the mantra: “small successes, not big failures.” While there’s nothing wrong with having big, lofty goals … be sure you’re setting reasonable goals that you can accomplish. Short-term measurements of success can help build your confidence (and empower you) with each achievement. Whereas, if your measure of success is this big, lofty goal you’ve set that may take years to achieve, your confidence won’t grow as quickly. Long term goals stretch out the path to success —build your confidence and empower yourself every day. (via jonschultz.com)

6. Raise up others

As Maya Angelou said: “When you know better you do better.” None of us can be successful without the help of others and vice versa. Take time to mentor or be a mentee. Attend speaking engagements or conferences. Be a supportive friend. Showing up can take on many forms, but the key is to be present and have empathy for your sisters. (via medium.com)

7. Let go

Let go of negative people. We absorb other people’s negativity. That’s why it’s good to avoid the negative or toxic ones who bring you down and make you feel like you’re not capable. If you want to keep one in your life, limit time spent with that person. And ask that they not make the negative comments. If they do, leave. Love yourself enough to not allow negative people to hurt you. (via beliefnet.com)

8. Have a self care day

Even Superwoman can use a spa day. Take one day of the week (or at least a few hours) to binge that Netflix series you’ve been eyeing, catch up on some sleep, take a bath with some tea, or have a spa day with a girlfriend. Feeling rejuvenated and relaxed will make you more productive the rest of the week. (via medium.com)

9. Take action to seize opportunity

Business owner, investor, and philanthropist Richard Branson is known worldwide for his many successful ventures. His net worth totals over $5 billion dollars. Less known is the story of how his airline, Virgin Airways, came into being.

Branson was in his late 20s, waiting for a flight to the Virgin Islands, when he found out that his flight was being cancelled. Not having any other options, he took the initiative, writing “Virgin Airlines $29” on a blackboard and walking around the airport. Using the money to finance it, he chartered a plane then and there and took himself and his happy passengers to their destination. When you encounter a problem, consider a direct solution, even if you haven’t worked out all the details. You may be surprised at what you are capable of.(via cnbc.com)

10. Adopt a Positive Mindset

Never underestimate the power of a positive mindset. The mind is a very powerful entity that controls everything within our inner being. Thinking positively through all situations gives women a sense of calm, a peace of mind, happiness, productivity and a full feeling of self-worth. There is nothing a woman cannot do with a positive mindset. Maintaining the daily habit of being aware of what and how the mind is thinking allows women to pick and choose their thoughts by being in control of their mental state. Thinking positively helps women confidently solve problems and face life’s daily challenges with a smile, knowing that everything will work out to their benefit and the benefit of others. 4 Ways Women Can Truly Empower Women

The saying is true, “When women empower women, incredible things happen!” There are so many ways we can empower, uplift, embrace and motivate each other, which is why today we’re sharing 4 Ways Women Can Truly Empower Women. Take note and if you have an inspiring story or tip for other women, please leave us a comment below and share!

Be A Mentor

Mentoring has become a great tool in imparting knowledge, skills and expertise to others. Apart from paying it forward, female mentors can also receive the rewarding experience from helping someone to be the best version of themselves.

Mentors will get a front-row seat in guiding someone else’s journey and watching their progress grows. Imagine seeing your female mentee rise to the top thanks to your encouragement, advice and support. Isn’t that inspiring? Remember, every contribution matters in transforming aspiring women into successful leader themselves. (via thefemalehustlers.com)

Share Your Story

We feel isolated and imperfect when comparing ourselves to other women because of the facades we all are guilty of putting up. We can demonstrate unrealistic presentations of ourselves, our lives, our careers, our families and anything that we may be fearful or unwilling to show vulnerability about. We don’t ever want to find ourselves at the other end of that nasty girl-gossip I mentioned earlier.

The truth is, we’re all tremendously imperfect, and in a way that’s the perfect remedy to all of the complexities of human life. We aren’t alone. Sharing your stories for other women to cry with you, rejoice with you and feel comfort in their own struggles and short-comings is a surprisingly simple way to make a real impact. You can do this for a mass audience, like writing for a blog or just in your daily life. Be who you are, and by doing so you’ll make other women feel like they can be who they are too. (via huffingtonpost.com)

Celebrate Other Women’s Achievements

If another woman impresses you, say so. If you think she’s doing a great job, tell her, and if possible, tell her boss, too. If a woman you work with has a great idea in a meeting, thank her for sharing it, and make sure nobody else tries to take credit for it. (via likeabossgirl.com)

Show That You Care

Empowering women starts right in our families, workplaces, and neighborhoods. Write a note of thanks to that teacher who encouraged you years ago, pick up coffee for that new mom in your office who’s struggling to balance it all, or tell your own sister, daughter, or mother how much you appreciate them. 6 Tips for Women and Their Heart Health

As women, we spend so much time taking care of others and don’t always put ourselves first, but we should! February is American Heart Month, and today on The Lash Lounge blog we’re sharing 6 Tips for Women and Their Heart Health. After all, a healthy heart is a happy heart.

1.Make Healthier Choices

When life gets busy, we tend to grab what’s convenient, which is fine – but is it healthy? When you choose to live a heart healthy life style, you don’t have to go on a crazy diet, you simply need to discover healthier choices that will make the transition from unhealthy to healthy a little easier. When you’re making your kids lunch, make a heart healthy snack for yourself, that way it will be ready for you to grab and go. Want some heart healthy snack ideas? Click here!

2. Pay Attention To Your Body

Don’t underestimate unusual feelings or symptoms you may be having.  Chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, a dry cough, anxiety,  and other symptoms can be signs you need to pay attention to and may be pointing to heart disease.

3. Get Moving!

We can all take at least 30 minutes a day, right? Taking half an hour of moderate exercise for 5 days each week is good for your heart. Any activity that gets you moving and breaking a little sweat is good. And it’s also a good idea to get in the habit of breaking up long periods of sitting, whether at your desk, at work or at home watching tv. Get up and move here and there, your heart will thank you! Here are some ideas on how to be more active throughout your day.

4. Reduce Stress

We know this one is easier said than done, but whether it’s through exercise, meditation, treating yourself to a massage or simply taking some ‘me time’ – do something for YOU. Whatever it is that helps you de-stress, do it! Stress is not good for the heart, or any part of our body for that matter. Even if it’s just 10 minutes out of your day, do something to lower those stress levels. (Our client’s love their lash naps and use that as their de-stressing ‘me time’!)

5. Get Your Rest

Did you know that a full night’s sleep is important for the health of your heart? Well, it is! According to WebMD, one study showed that  young and middle-age adults who slept at least 7 hours a night had less calcium in their arteries (an early sign of heart disease) than those who slept 5 hours or less or those who slept 9 hours or more. And it needs to be quality sleep. Adults who get a true, good night’s sleep have healthier arteries than those who do not sleep well. Cick here for 10 tips to get more sleep!

6. Schedule Regular Check-Ups

Again, as women we’re always caring for others before ourselves, but how can we take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves? Getting your annual check-up gives you a chance to talk to your doctor about any concerns or symptoms and make sure you’re on the right track with your health. So next time your making an appointment for someone in your family, ask yourself, “Am I due for a check-up?” and if the answer is yes, schedule it ASAP!
