The Difference Between a Full Set and a Full…

Whether it’s your first time getting lash extensions or you’re a seasoned pro, we’re filling you in on the lingo around our lashes. First up: services. What is the deal with this “full set” you keep hearing about? And what’s up with refills?

WHAT’S A FULL SET?

If you’re new to lash extensions, you’ll want to get a “full set” of lashes the first time you come into The Lash Lounge. Yep, it’s the same terminology you’ve heard at the nail salon. When you get a full set, we’ll get you started with extensions by fully covering your lash line with long, lovely lashes! Depending on the lash level you’re after, we will then apply between 60–120 natural lashes per eye during this service.

Here at The Lash Lounge, we are not a “one size fits all” lash salon. We use our proprietary lash design technique that uses your natural features as our lash canvas. We’ll create a custom look unique to you…and only you. We have several different lash types, curls and fullness levels to choose from.

Before your first application, your stylist will take you through a personalized consultation. During this time, you will share a little about the lash look you have in mind, as well as your lifestyle. You’ll get to flip through our lookbook to see examples of all of the gorgeous options that are available. This will help you and your stylist determine the very best custom lash creation for you—one that is safe for and enhances your natural lashes.

A full set of eyelash extensions typically takes around two hours to apply, but it can vary slightly based on the number of your natural lashes, the application method and lash design you choose. This may sound like a long time, but when you think about it, this is detailed work! And, since both safety and quality are #1 in our book, we work diligently and carefully to maintain the integrity of your natural lashes while crafting your dream lash look!

WHAT’S A FULL REFILL?

Did you know that, with or without lash extensions, most of us lose 20–30% of our natural lashes every two weeks? It’s a fact! This is why we recommend going in for a refill every two to three weeks to ensure that your lash line stays looking fabulous and oh-so full.

Here’s the scoop: a full refill involves applying eyelash extensions on new hair growth (new lashes) to give your lash line a full and refreshed lease on life. Both of these services begin by removing any long or overgrown eyelash extensions followed by replacing and applying new extensions. A full refill includes 25–45 new extensions applied per eye to really nail that fullness factor. If more always equals better for you, you can also up the ante with 10, 20 or 30 extra lashes.

MAINTENANCE MAKES BEAUTIFUL!

So, what’s the easiest way to maintain that full lash look you’re totally obsessed with and keep up with your refill appointments? Two words: Gold Membership. Our Gold Membership program is just the ticket to not only keeping those two classic refill appointments scheduled (and less money out of your pocket), but also getting access to additional perks like 10% of all products and services.

The beautiful benefit of having this membership (other than your fabulous lashes, of course) is that you will be provided with a drastically simplified beauty routine, yet that showcases your stunning eyelash extensions on the regular!

Whether you want more of a natural lash look or you feel like going all out and ultra-glam, our stylists will work with you to design your dream lash look. After all, we are all about customization here at The Lash Lounge, whether it’s your very first full set or 100th refill.

Experiment, rock, repeat—all under the care of our expert stylists, who have your best YOU in mind!

How To Care For Eyelash Extensions: 5 Fool-Proof Ways…

While we love a good laugh, one thing we never kid about is the eyelash extension care and lash longevity. It’s no coincidence that taking care of your lashes gets you the most mileage out of your fluttery friends. Today, we’re sharing some fool-proof ways to keep them at their best for longer!

1. CLEAN + BRUSH THEM DAILY

It may seem like “How to Care for Eyelash Extensions 101,” but one of the easiest ways to extend the life of your lashes is simply to keep them clean. In terms of your day-to-day routine, that just means keeping up with daily face-washing. If you’ve already built in the suds and scrubs, the good news is there’s no extra task for you. We recommend using one of our oil-free, lash extension-safe makeup removers, which is the best way to keep your lashes clean and secure. Purchase a cleanser at one of our salons and choose from either our Special Makeup Remover or our Eye Makeup Remover Gel. Learn more about the difference between these two life-changing lash cleansers.

Wondering just how you should clean your lashes? Don’t worry we won’t leave you hanging. Just follow the 3 steps below:

  1. Use our oil-free and alcohol-free eyewash specifically formulated for lash extensions.
  2. Refrain from pulling or tugging your lashes while washing. Simply use your fingertips or a lash-cleansing brush to gently massage the cleanser into your lash line.
  3. Rinse with fresh water until the cleanser and makeup residue is removed.

Along with cleaning your lashes daily, you’ll also want to make sure you brush your lashes every morning with a clean mascara wand. Why morning? While you’re sleeping, your lashes can tangle and flip to the side, so the secret to keeping them in place is to gently brush through and fluff them.

2. BE GENTLE

As a general rule of thumb for eyelash extension care, the less you mess with your lashes, the longer they will last. So, no rubbing, tugging or plucking when you have lash extensions! If you do a lot of rubbing and messing with your lash line, this could cause your extensions to fall off prematurely…who wants that?

We do know and understand that everyone is human and you may have an itch near your lash line from time to time. The good news is that there are ways to soothe the itch without any vigorous rubbing or pulling on your lashes. A simple trick is to use your mascara wand to gently brush through your lashes. Don’t you feel better already just thinking about it? But if you must, a slight rub on your eyelid in a circular motion is a-ok, too.

3. USE A LASH SEALANT

If you have invested in lash extensions, then you will also want to be sure to invest in a lash sealant. This product goes a long way to extend the life of the adhesive used to attach the extension to your natural lash. It locks your extensions in place for a longer period of time.

Be sure to purchase one of the two we offer: our Protecting Sealer and our Black Diamond Coating Sealant. What’s the difference between these two? The Black Diamond sealer is a daily use product that adds a darker sheen and helps extend the life of your extensions. The Protecting Sealer is used twice weekly and perfect for those with active lifestyles, those who live in high humidity areas, and those with oily skin types.

In short, a lash sealant is the perfect aftercare product to extend the life of your lash extensions and retention in between refills. Next to the investment you’ve made in your lash extensions themselves, purchasing a lash sealer is a close second!

4. ONLY USE LASH EXTENSION-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS

Not all beauty products are okay to use with lash extensions. Be sure to stay away from waterproof mascara and any oil- or alcohol-based products or cosmetics. And yes, this includes any moisturizers with oil that are applied around the eyes.

Check out last week’s post on lash extension-friendly beauty products and cosmetics!

5. DON’T MISS YOUR REFILLS…LIKE, EVER!

When it comes down to it, fundamentally, how to take care of eyelash extensions boils down to keeping up with your lash refill appointments every two weeks. It’s the only way to keep your lash line looking full. When you come in for your refill appointment, your stylist will perform maintenance to freshen up your current set, then place new extensions for added fullness. When you come in for refills on the regular, you ensure a full, lush lash line and a fresh lash look, like we all love!

On the other hand, if you don’t keep up with your regular refills, your stylist will have to add more extensions than usual to bring that fullness back. This could mean you need to invest in a service upgrade. This is definitely doable and we can also make sure to book the right amount of time for your appointment so we can get your lashes back to the fab fullness you adore.

So, schedule your refill appointments regularly and even ask us about our membership program, which will save you money on regular refills and make sure you’re always looking and feeling your best!

Eyelash Extension Care: Tips on Brushing and Cleaning Your…

As lash masters, we often get asked how to care for eyelash extensions. The good news is, when you have eyelash extensions, the overall upkeep is very minimal and very easy to manage if you clean and brush them regularly. Follow these eyelash extension care tips (plus visit your salon for refill appointments every 2–3 weeks) and your lashes will stay looking full and fabulous!

#1: Keep Your Eyelashes Clean

We’ll start with the basics of eyelash extension care: Keep that fluffy lash line squeaky clean! When you clean your lashes regularly, you are helping to keep your natural oils at bay. Cleansing regularly also helps prevent premature lash shedding. Cleanse your lashes daily with a gentle, lash extension-friendly cleanser and make sure it’s oil- and alcohol-free!

THE SCARY TRUTH: When you skip your daily lash wash, your lash follicles can get clogged with oil, dirt and debris, which can make it difficult for new lashes to grow.

Despite this, it’s not uncommon for lash stylists to see guests with severe build-up of makeup residue, oil and/or dead skin cells along their lash lines. This is not only unhygienic, but it can also cut into your appointment time because your stylist must make sure they’re squeaky clean before performing your refill.

#2: Brush Your Eyelashes Daily

No one wants a messy lash line. To take care of your eyelash extensions, brush your lashes daily to prevent crisscrossing. A simple 15–20 second sweep through your lashes in the morning will put stray lashes in their place. Make sure you’re gentle when brushing your eyelash extensions, as you don’t want to tug at them if they are tangled or overlapping. And take a quick peek to make sure your lash wand is clean. We don’t want any clumpy mascara getting in the way of that smooth sweep!

BONUS! Brushing your lashes each day helps your extensions last longer.
