Did you know that your eyelashes are in an everlasting growth cycle? They grow, rest and shed constantly. If you wear lash extensions, you’ve probably noticed your extensions shed right along with your natural lashes. That’s completely normal, healthy and expected. That’s exactly why consistent lash fills are essential to maintaining your look. The main types of lash fill are classic, hybrid, volume and mega volume. The fill process varies based on the application method and the amount of fullness that needs to be restored. Without regular maintenance, even the fullest set will start to show gaps as natural shedding happens.

We’re here to explain the different types of lash fills, what to expect at your lash fill appointment and how to stay on a schedule that keeps your lashes looking exactly the way you love them. 💜

What Is a Lash Fill? (And How It Differs From a Full Set)

An eyelash fill is the appointment where your stylist replaces the extensions that have shed, restoring your beautiful set back to its original fullness. Think of a fill as a lash maintenance appointment rather than a redo. Your stylist will work with what you still have and fill in the gaps (rather than starting from scratch).

A full set, on the other hand, is a brand-new set starting with nothing but your natural lashes. Most guests don’t need a full set every time they’re in the chair as lash extension fills are designed to keep you out of the chair longer. 😌

That said, if too much time has passed between appointments, or your lashes have shed significantly, your stylist may need to do a full set vs. a refill to properly account for the amount of time and work needed to restore your look.

Classic Lash Fills: What to Expect at Your Appointment.

Classic lash application consists of one lash extension attached to one natural lash. During a classic lash fill, your stylist will replace the extensions that have shed, keeping your lash line full and consistent. Because classic lashes are applied with just one extension per natural lash, rather than fans, your stylist can easily see which lashes need replacing and restoring.

Volume Lash Fills: Keeping Your Fans Full and Fresh

Volume sets are made with ultra-light fans of 2–6 lash extensions that are applied to each natural lash for a full, bold and impactful look. The boldness is the defining feature of the look, and is what makes consistent maintenance so important. As fans shed, gaps become more visible. A volume fill restores that fullness intentionally and consistently, keeping your lash line looking full and even.

Hybrid Lash Fills: Replenishing Texture and Dimension

Hybrid lashes are where classic meets volume. Because this application method uses both the classic and volume techniques, during a hybrid eyelash fill your stylist replaces both the individual classic lashes and lightweight volume fans that have shed.

The goal of the refill is to keep the balance of texture and fullness that keeps your hybrid look distinctive. Regular lash extension maintenance preserves the dimensional, unique and stunning appearance.

Mega Volume Fills: Why Timing Matters Most

With mega volume lashes, we apply a fan of 7–20 of our lightest lash extensions to your natural eyelash, giving you the biggest possible wow factor. The density is what creates the signature bold lash line, and it’s also what makes refills so critical. When fans shed, those gaps are very noticeable, so you’ll want to stay on schedule, so your set stays stunning.

*Mega volume available at select salon locations.

How Your Fill Type Affects Appointment Length

No two fill appointments are ever the same (and neither are appointment times, either). 💁🏼‍♀️

The time your eyelash refill takes depends on a handful of factors: your application method, how much shedding has happened since your last appointment, your desired fullness and more.

While a full set of lashes can take 2–3 hours to apply, the fill is different. Your lash fill appointment should take roughly 45 minutes but can differ depending on the current state of your lashes and your chosen style.

Your stylist will begin every lash fill appointment by assessing the state of your current set and work based on what they see. Our lash extensions are personalized, never standardized, and appointment length is part of that personalization, too. 😌

How Often Should You Come In for Each Style?

We advise our guests to come in for their lash fills every two weeks, but you may want to come sooner. Your natural growth cycle, lash application method, retention, lifestyle, home aftercare habits and desired fullness all play a role in how often you’ll want to come visit us.

The more consistent you are with your lash maintenance, the better your lashes will look over time. Regular refills help protect the investment you made in yourself, help preserve your original lash design, reduce gaps and minimize the chance of needing a new set.

Life happens—we totally get it! But, skipping or delaying appointments often ends up costing more money, and more time, than staying on a regular schedule would. Your stylist can help you create a personalized schedule that’ll work well with your specific lashes and lifestyle.
