4 Famous Mother-Daughter Duos and Their Beauty Tips

Mother’s Day is right around the corner which got us thinking about some famous Mother-Daughter duos. Check out these lovely ladies and a few beauty tips they swear by.

Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson

(image via allure.com)

Always smiling and exuding joy, Goldie and Kate are clearly best friends and share an amazing relationship. Kate has followed in her mother’s famous footsteps and off the big screen, she also shares her mother’s love for life, as well as her healthy, active lifestyle.

Goldie & Kate’s Beauty Tips: When it comes to beauty, it’s apparent that great genes run in the family, but in a joint interview with Allure in 2013, Kate was asked what beaut secrets she learned from her Mom, and said “I think it’s more the stuff we eat. Like green juice—mom’s been drinking green juice forever. And taking teaspoons of olive oil. We love products and we have fun with products, but in terms of the real stuff that I’ve learned from mom, it’s her lifestyle. She was always healthy and active and drinking something green.”

Tina & Beyonce Knowles

(image via popsugar.com)

Tina Knowles has always been known as a strong, confident woman – and clearly she passed that on to her daughter. Beyoncé and her mom have a strong bond and also share a love for beauty and cosmetics. Beyoncé grew up going to her mother’s salon in Houston, where she saw and learned a great deal. Fast forward to 2010, Tina collaborated with Beyoncé to open the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center at the Phoenix House in Brooklyn.

Tina’s Beauty Tip: Undergarments are the foundation to looking great. A good bra, Spanx, or some tummy-control panties to smooth out the lines are really important. (source: cosmopolitan.com)

Beyoncés Beauty Tip: “My best beauty advice came from my mother. She always says that outer beauty fades and inner beauty has a lasting effect. She also told me to wash my makeup off before going to bed. I don’t always, but I’m trying!” (Source: ogleschool.edu)

Michelle and Chynna Phillips

(image via instyle.com)

This pair not only share beautiful features, but also beautiful voices and success in two well known music groups. Michelle was in the group The Mamas & The Papas in the 60’s and Chynna was (and still is) with the popular 90’s group, Wilson Phillips. Both women have taken great pride in taking care of themselves and Chynna has watched and learned from her mother over the years.

Michelle’s Beauty Tip: “Wash your face with soap every morning, with a mild cleanser and rinse it with the same soapy water 30 times.” She also shared, ” I always use moisturizer. And I always use L’Oreal. And here’s the big reason why I use it. I use it because I can buy it at my supermarket! A moisturizer with a sun block, and at night you use a moisturizer without sun block.” (source: knotslanding.net)

Chynna’s Beauty Tip: In an interview with Carol Au Courant, Chynna shared her top 4 natural beauty tips: “Get 10 hours of sleep each night. Use a mask – any mask – once per week on your face.  Never pop a zit.  And stay away from too much sugar, dairy, white flour, and anything processed.”

Tracee Ellis Ross and Diana Ross

(image via popsugar.com)

Where do we begin with this mother/daughter duo? While Diana is a tough act to follow, her daughter Tracee has paved her own way in the entertainment industry. This is another pair that clearly share amazing genes, however Tracee had a great teacher in her mother and learned how to care for herself.

Diana’s Beauty Tip: “My ‘quick makeups’ are jumbo eye pencils, really black black pencils, and mascara, maybe blusher and a light lip gloss, something nice for the day.” (source: vogue.com)

Tracee’s Beauty Tip: “I’m really big on hydration, you gotta drink the water so there’s hydration on the inside and the outside.” When it comes to moisturizing, Tracee has a unique method and recommends “spanking” your moisturizer into your face, by tapping lightly on your skin while the moisture sinks in. 5 Things Lash Stylists Want Their Clients To Know

If you’re a lash extension veteran, then your lash stylist has most likely educated you on the best ways to care for your lashes, products you can/cannot use and all the other important ‘dos and dont’s’ that come with having lash extensions. But there are some other important things that lash stylists want YOU, their clients to know . . .

Be Upfront

Don’t be afraid to share any discomfort or concerns with your stylist during your service. They are there to not only make your lashes look fabulous, but they also want to make sure you have the best lash experience possible. If you have any discomfort or irritation during your service, tell your stylist so she can make you comfortable. Also be sure to reach out to your salon/stylist after your service, if by chance you experience an allergic reaction, redness or simply have a question you forgot to mention before you left. They are the experts after-all, so don’t hesitate to share any concerns during or after your service.

Don’t Expect The Same Results As Your Friends

Your stylist will always strive to give you the lash look you desire. However, if your friend has lash extensions with extreme, voluminous fullness and you want the same but your lashes don’t end up looking as full as hers, there’s a reason. Clients who already have a naturally full lash line will end up with an even more extreme, full lash line after having extensions applied. If your natural lash line isn’t as full, then your lash extensions may not have the same fullness as your friend’s lashes. The more natural lash hairs you have, the more extensions can be applied. So to sum it up, your stylist wants you to understand that they will work with the natural hairs YOU have and give you the best results possible, however your lash look and your bff’s lash look may not always look the same….and now you know why.

Keep Chatter to a Minimum

While it’s always fun to catch up with your fav, fabulous lash stylist, too much chatting can make her job more difficult. Why? For one, it’s always very important to be as still as possible during the application process and allow your stylist to focus on the precise technique she needs to master during your service. Second, this needs to be a relaxing experience for you. If you and your stylist chat the entire time, then you may not get to enjoy that amazing lash nap we all love. However, if it’s your stylist that’s doing most of the talking, remember to take headphones to keep the talking to minimum, or like we mentioned in #1, be upfront and kindly tell your stylist you’ve had a long day and that you’d prefer to just relax and not chat too much. She will gladly understand!

Don’t Leave It All Up To Your Stylist

If you don’t do your part and take care of your lashes, then your lash stylist can’t do her job to the fullest. If you don’t clean, comb and care for your lashes properly, then your stylist may not always be able to give you the results you want. They will try of course, but if they have to spend time cleaning and separating dirty lashes, then this means less time getting your lashes back to the look you love. If you have lost a great deal of lashes due to poor care or if you don’t keep up with your 2-3 week refill appointments, then your stylist may recommend a full, new set. So be good to yourself, your lashes and your stylist by taking proper care of your extensions and schedule regular refills. (Pssst . . . It’s now easier than ever to book your appointments with our new, convenient on-line booking system.)

Listen To Your Stylist

Remember that the stylists are the experts! They do this every day, for hours a day. Listen to them and any tips or feedback they may give you during your appointment. You make an investment in your lash extensions and your stylists knows it and wants to help you keep that investment looking full and fabulous!

10 Facts About Brow Tinting and Threading You May…

If your brows are in need of a makeover, brow tinting and threading can do wonders! See below for 10 facts about these two fabulous services that you may or may not know.

Eyebrow Threading

  1. The results from eyebrow threading lasts longer than plucking or waxing. Plucking lasts 2–4 weeks, waxing lasts 3–6 weeks and eyebrow threading (wait for it . . . ) can last up to 8 weeks!
  2. Threading removes an entire row of hairs at a time, which will give your brows a more precise shape
  3. If you have ever experienced ingrown hairs after plucking, you will not have to worry about that happening with threading.
  4. Threading is a much faster process than waxing or plucking.
  5. Brow threading will not irritate your skin like waxing often can.

Eyebrow Tinting

  1. Brow tinting is a service that doesn’t involve hair removal but uses a semi-permanent dye to enhance the color, shape, and thickness of your brows.
  2. Tinting is the perfect way to add a color boost to your brows (and even your lashes) and is ideal for those with light hair.
  3. A brow tint can widen your arches and elongate your eyebrows, which will give your brows a more defined, beautiful look.
  4. If you have naturally fine brows or you over-plucked back in the day like many of us did (ooops!) a brow tint can help by boosting the volume of your eyebrows.
  5. Even if your eyebrows are already dark, a tint can grab those peach-fuzz hairs and fill in the shape of your brows. You may discover you have hairs you didn’t know were there!

The Difference Between Classic and Volume Eyelash Extensions

One of the first things we discuss when a new client visits one of our salons is the difference between Classic and Volume Eyelash Extensions, which we are also going to share today! Before we jump into explaining the difference between these two lash applications, let’s revisit semi-permanent eyelash extensions and what exactly they are.

Semi-permanent Eyelash Extensions

These are individual extensions made of a synthetic material to look like perfect natural eyelashes; thicker at the base and thinner at the tip with a slight curl. The most popular color is Solid Black, however they do come in many other color options. Each extension is adhered one by one to a natural lash using a medical-grade bonding adhesive, which gives the appearance of a darker, more voluptuous lash-line.

Now for the difference between Classic and Volume!

Classic Eyelash Extensions

These is our signature lash application where the attachment of 1 extension is applied to 1 natural eyelash. The result is an enhanced lash line with a natural and realistic appearance. We recommend Classic Lashes to those who want their lashes to look beautiful yet natural. See the photos below of real clients with Classic Lash Extensions.

Volume Eyelash Extensions

When it comes to volume extensions,  we apply 2 or more of our lightest lash extensions to 1 natural eyelash. Our Volume lashes are most popular with our clients since they offer incredible fullness and last longer than our classic lash application. See the photos below of real clients with Volume Lash Extensions.

Tips & Tricks

5 Tips for Taking Care of Eyelash Extensions

Taking care of your lashes is essential for a beautiful, long-lasting set. We’ve got all the details on how to care for eyelash extensions so that you keep on loving them…and loving YOU!

Follow these 5 tips to keep your lash look in check:

1. Keep Your Eyelashes Clean

The best way to keep your lash extensions clean is by using a lash extension-safe cleanser. At The Lash Lounge, we offer cleansers that are specially formulated for cleaning your extensions: Oil Free Liquid Remover and Oil Free Gel Remover. Our gentle, oil-free and alcohol-free eye makeup removers have the same pH balance as natural tears and come in a liquid or gel formula.

When cleaning your eye area to remove makeup and eyeshadow, we recommend applying the cleanser to a cotton pad. Be sure to saturate the cotton pad because the dry cotton could catch onto your lashes. Very gently rub your eyelid and avoid rubbing your lashes. When you need to clean your lashes, use your lash wand and gently brush through your lashes.

2. Omit Oil-Based Products

Any skincare products, creams or cosmetics that are oil-based are a no-no when it comes to lash extension care. Be sure to select products that are labeled “oil-free” to ensure the longevity of your lashes. And when in doubt, always read the ingredients label to make sure what you are using is truly oil-free.

3. Retire Your Mascara

The beauty of lash extensions is that you have lovely, long, full lashes without having to wear mascara. We know that some of you may still want to wear mascara on occasion, and that’s okay as long as it’s a mascara made for lash extensions. However, wearing no mascara at all is better when it comes to extending the life of your lashes.

If you’re a mascara fiend, be sure to ONLY wear a water-based mascara. Be aware, this is not the same as a waterproof mascara, so make sure you look closely at those labels! When applying your lash extension-safe mascara, only use one coat and only apply to the tips of your lashes.

4. Avoid Overexposure to Moisture

Too much moisture on a constant basis is not good for your lashes. But daily face-washing and activities like swimming are lash extension-safe.

5. Maintain Lash Extension Refills Regularly

All of the tips we have mentioned are so very important, but this one is the big kahuna! Sticking with your refill appointments every 2 weeks will keep your lashes looking their absolute best. After all, when it comes to how to care for lash extensions, you need to have a full, luscious lash line to start with!

The longer you wait for a fill, the harder it is for your lash stylist to keep your lashes looking fabulous. If you go too long without getting a lash refill, a full new set may be required. So, maintaining your refills is a good idea in more ways than one!
