Makeup Tips For A Photoshoot

Whether it’s a solo photoshoot or picture taking with the entire fam, getting your makeup just right is essential. Here are some of our top makeup tips for a photoshoot so you feel camera ready and truly love all the snaps.

Tip 1: Full-Coverage For The Win

No stranger to full-coverage makeup? You’re all set! But if it’s not the norm for your makeup routine, it’s definitely something to consider for picture day! Applying a foundation (and even concealer) that’s a full-cover formula will do wonders for your photos. It will cover blemishes, imperfections and even out your skin tone for a flawless look.

Tip 2: Make Those Eyelashes Picture Perfect

It’s no surprise one of our top tips has to do with eyelashes! It’s just that a photoshoot with barely-there lashes would be a huge disappointment. From custom lash extensions from yours truly to a lash lift and tint, making your eyes pop through your eyelashes is a no brainer for a photoshoot!

Tip 3: Shy Away from Shimmer

Holiday photo sessions can often make us think glitz, glam, sparkle and shimmer.✨However, when it comes to makeup it’s a good idea to shy away from shimmery cosmetics like eyeshadow, bronzers and blush. Why? (We know you’re wondering!) On camera, makeup with shimmer can sometimes result in an oily or greasy look. Sure, it’s pretty in person, but we say don’t risk it for a photo sesh.

Tip 4: Bold Blush Is A Must

Yes, you read that right! Heavy blush is a big makeup tip for photoshoots because it shows up BEAUTIFULLY on camera. (Trust us!) Another tip for blush: Apply a cream blush first then assess the look. If you think it’s just right, you’re all set. If you think your cheeks could use a bit more punch, apply a powder brush on top to achieve that bold, camera-ready look!

Tip 5: A Pout With A Pop

If you’re a nude lip fan, then you may not love this tip, but here we go! Like a bold cheek, a bold lip or at least a hue with some color (even subtle) will show up on camera. A very light lip that’s similar to your skin tone can make you look washed out So, when in doubt, add some pop to your pout! Think reds and pinks, but in complementing shades to your skin tone. 💄

Photoshoot Pose Tips

We can’t share a blog with photoshoot makeup tips without pausing to talk poses! Like tips for makeup, we could go on and on about pose tips and pointers. But for now, see below for our top 3.

Pose Pointer 1: Take a Turn

A slight turn can do wonders for creating a flattering photo. But don’t turn too much. Go for a little less than half of a turn—45 degrees if you want us to be exact. 😉 An angle will definitely help you ace your photo op.

Pose Pointer 2: Say Cheese and Smize

Smize? Yes, this IS a term and it means “smile with your eyes”. We know this isn’t technically a pose, but it is in a way…a pose of the face you could say. Of course, we’re all about a good smize here at The Lash Lounge cause it doesn’t get more beautiful than a killer set of lashes and a smile through your eyes. So, when you step in front of the camera, focus on smiling not just with your mouth but with your full face and eyes. Show that joy and shine for the camera!

Pose Pointer 3: Posture On Point

It sounds simple but practicing good posture for pics is a prime tip! The best way to ensure your postureis on point is by putting your shoulders back. It may feel awkward and no, you don’t want to overdo it. But a natural shift back of your shoulders can immediately immerse your photo from no 👎 to whoa 🙌!

Last tip: Practice these in front of the mirror and do research online for more photo taking tips! Being prepared before hopping in front of the camera is always a good idea.
