How Long Does Microblading Last? What to Expect from Your New Brows
If you’re considering microblading, you probably have questions about the service like:
- What is microblading?
- How long does microblading last?
- Is microblading permanent?
We’ve got the answers! Let’s start with the most common question…
What Is Microblading?
Microblading is a technique that involves a semi-permanent pigment (a form of tattooing) to mimic the look of single brow hairs across your eyebrow area.
Here’s how this brow service is performed at The Lash Lounge*:
- It entails meticulous strokes from a small hand tool containing a blade (made from teeny, tiny needles) to create natural-looking brow hairs
- It’s a customized service with a selection of pigments to choose from
- We offer shades that can best be matched to anyone’s skin tone and natural hair color
- The service is performed by a trained, certified and licensed professional
- Our artists evaluate guests’ natural brows to find the best style and shape for their features
- A topical anesthetic can be used to minimize potential discomfort
*Microblading available at select Lash Lounge locations. Check with your local salon for availability.
Is Microblading Permanent?
At The Lash Lounge, microblading is a semi-permanent service (not permanent). This means that over time, your microbladed brows can fade and will require touch-ups.
Not to worry though, touch-ups are a GOOD thing because it allows you to:
- Freshen up your brow shape
- Refresh your current shade or choose a different color
The Microblading Healing Process
Now that you know how microblading works, let’s talk healing phases and timeline!
- Days 1–7: Your brows will likely appear bold in shape and color and some signs of scabbing may begin to appear.
- Weeks 2–4: You may notice peeling during the beginning of this period. After that, you will notice that your pigment is starting to settle or notice slight fading.
- Week 6: Your results are likely set, and you’ll be enjoying your beautiful brows!
How Long Does Microblading Last?
When performed by a trained and licensed professional, microblading results can last anywhere from 1–3 years. Touch ups are often booked around 12–18 months as fading will naturally happen after each procedure.
Keep in mind however, that everyone is different and there are factors that can influence the longevity of microblading and how long you can go between touch-ups. These factors can include:
- Your skin type
- For example, oily skin can sometimes cause the pigment to fade a little quicker whereas dry skin helps retain pigment longer.
- How well you follow aftercare instructions (get the scoop on this below!)

- Excessive moisture (particularly the first 1–2 weeks)

FAQs
How long is the healing process after microblading?
The complete healing process after microblading can range from 4 to 8 weeks while the outer layer of skin typically heals within 30 days. However, everyone is different, and healing times could vary.
When should I get my first touch-up?
4 to 8 weeks is generally when your first microblading touch-up is recommended. Always consult with your artist about timing to ensure your skin has fully healed and timing is right for any adjustments.
Does microblading completely fade away?
While microblading does fade over time, it may not disappear completely. How much it fades depends on the individual, their skin type, pigment, aftercare and other personalized factors.
Can I go in the sun after microblading?
You should avoid direct UV exposure to your brows (sun or tanning beds) for the first 2–4 weeks after microblading to keep the pigment from fading prematurely and to allow the skin to properly heal. After this time, applying sunscreen to the area prior to sun exposure is always recommended.
