10 Simple Ways to De-Stress

April is Stress Awareness Month and no matter what it may be, from work, kids, relationships or just life in general, we all have stress. Take note of these 10 simple ways to de-stress and do yourself a favor and try at least one this week.

1. Take A Walk

While just about any walk will help to clear your head and boost endorphins, consider walking in a park or other green space, which can actually put your body into a state of meditation. (via

2. Finish The Tough Stuff First

Try to get your most complicated tasks out of the way early in the day so that they’re not looming over you for hours. Think of it as a “best for last” technique and you’ll start to look forward to your afternoons. (via

3. Aromatherapy

Smell is often an underrated sense when it comes to our daily lives; we generally take for granted the ability to smell. In fact, smelling (and our olfactory nerve, which gives us our sense of smell) gives us the ability to connect directly to our brain. The olfactory nerve sends responses to the amygdala, which is responsible for our emotions, motivation, and nervous system. According to a study from the Pharmacy Department of Brazil, Aromatherapy has been proven to help reduce anxiety as effectively as prescribed medicine.  (via

4. Take The Edge Off

Find ways to take the edge off your stress. Simple things, like a warm bath, listening to music, or spending time on a favorite hobby, can give you a much-needed break from the stressors in your life. (via Psstt Ladies . . . take a break at The Lash Lounge where our luxurious, spa like environment makes relaxing during one of your favorite services the perfect escape!

5. Learn To Say No

Learning to say ‘no’ is an important aspect of maintaining a good mental health. We understand your need to help everyone, but trust us – that won’t bring you any good in the long run. It’ll just lead to a faster burnout, so focus on yourself and achieve a peaceful state of mind. (via

6. Turn on Some Tunes

While classical music has a particularly soothing effect — it slows heart rate, lowers blood pressure and even decreases levels of stress hormones — any music that you love will flood your brain with feel-good neurochemicals like dopamine. Don’t have your headphones handy? Try humming or making your own music. One study of stressed-out nursing students found that recreational music-making relieved stress and prevented burnout.(via

7. Establish Your ‘Me’ Time

People live really hectic lives these days, which leave them no time to wonder if they are truly happy and satisfied with what they’ve got. Establishing your ‘me’ time can help you to make that happen, so don’t be afraid to set some boundaries and do whatever feels right for you. Finding a new hobby can be extremely beneficial for your well-being, no matter if you opt for knitting, reading books, working out, hiking, or watching movies. There are a lot of different options you can explore, and it really doesn’t matter which one you’ll pick as long as you’re satisfied with it.  (via

8. Connect with A Friend

Socializing is one of the easiest ways to distract yourself from everyday anxieties, so call up a pal to chat for a few minutes. Try to avoid any work-related venting and stick to fun, tension-free topics instead.  (via

9. Visualize

A short visualization is an easy way to get back to center. Even the National Institutes for Health recognizes the power of “guided imagery” to elicit a relaxation response. Simply make yourself comfortable (at your desk, in an empty conference room — wherever!) and then try to picture a peaceful scene: a future vacation, your favorite beach. You can even visualize yourself accomplishing a future goal or, as Women’s Health magazine puts it, “picture yourself in an elevator, happily sandwiched between two hot actors of your choice.” (via

10. Unplug

It’s impossible to escape stress when it follows you everywhere. Cut the cord. Avoid emails and TV news. Take time each day — even if it’s for just 10 or 15 minutes — to escape from the world. (via

3 Influential Women to Be Inspired By

Last week we celebrated International Women’s Day, which got us thinking about some women we can learn from and be inspired by. From a big-screen beauty, survivor and activist, to Instagram’s COO, these 3 influential women are using their voice and experiences to shine a light on women, their rights and their future.

Reese Witherspoon

(image via

What’s not to love about Reese Witherspoon? From her countless movies we know and love to her brand and business, Draper James, Reese is a woman on the move. Recently, she has taken matters in her own hands in order to change the dynamic of women on the big screen. Instead of waiting for the path to change on its own, she created her own path and started her own production company in order to capitalize on female driven stories for not only film, but for television and on-line. In 2015 she told Glamour magazine, “I have this drive from my upbringing to be a doer not just a complainer … my mother would always say, ‘If you want something done, do it yourself’.” Her motivation to take action  and make things happens, makes Reese Witherspoon a true inspiration and powerhouse when it comes to female ambition!

“If you’re one of those people who has that little voice in the back of her mind saying, ‘Maybe I could do [fill in the blank],’ don’t tell it to be quiet. Give it a little room to grow, and try to find an environment it can grow in.” – Reese Witherspoon

Malala Yousafzai

(image via

Shot in the head at close range by a Taliban gunman, Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan became well known for her criticism of the Taliban and her astounding campaign on education. After surviving the gunshot, she became a beloved spokesperson for not only women and children’s rights, but for human rights in general. Now at 20 years old, Malala has spoken in front of the United Nations (including Queen Elizabeth), was a co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize (she was the second Pakistani to receive a this honor after 1979 ), was granted an honorary doctorate by the University of King’s College, and opened a school for Syrian refugees.

There are so many incredible things that this young woman has already accomplished, as well as a number of honors she has received, but one thing is for certain . . . Malala is an amazing example for us to watch and learn from and we can’t wait to see what she does next!

“I raise up my voice-not so I can shout but so that those without a voice can be heard…we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.”
Malala Yousafzai

Marne Levine

(image via

If you are not familiar with the name Marne Levine, you should be! Marne is the COO of the ever growing social media platform, Instagram. It was not always an easy road during her professional career, but today she is known for helping Instagram grow all over the world, changing the advertising platform on the app and was a leader in launching the live video tool that’s now widely used on IG. But how does she help women? Marne is greatly inspired by women in business and understands how Instagram can be an incredibly valuable tool for women who are working to promote and grow their business. This wife and mother of two travels around the globe, mostly to meet and connect with female entrepreneurs and founders who have faced yet overcome business barriers. In an interview with Marie Claire, Marne said (in reference to Instagram and how it empowers women in business,) “Women can access the information, support, markets, and even the capital to turn an idea into a business,” she says. “That’s remarkably empowering.”

The way Instagram has become a great platform for inspiring women in general, to inspiring them to take their passion and turn it into a livelihood (like TLL’s Founder and CEO, Anna Phillips,) excites Marne and confirms the mission behind her work.

When you put fear aside and follow your convictions, you get to try and achieve so many more things. – Marne Levine

Allison looked lovely with her wavy locks, glowing skin, a nude lip and our favorite . . . long lashes! She’s clearly a natural beauty but the length on those lashes truly brightened her gorgeous face.

This big screen star enhanced her natural beauty with a wine colored lip, classic lashes and full, perfectly shaped brows.

Viola Davis

This talented actress went for voluminous curls, makeup that enhanced her naturally beautiful skin and show stopping lashes with MAJOR length. This is what we call, lash envy!

She was on trend with the minimal makeup look but what stood out to us the most was her bold, beautiful brows! (Psst . . . if you want brows like this, we can help! 6 Tips for Women and Their Heart Health

As women, we spend so much time taking care of others and don’t always put ourselves first, but we should! February is American Heart Month, and today on The Lash Lounge blog we’re sharing 6 Tips for Women and Their Heart Health. After all, a healthy heart is a happy heart.

1.Make Healthier Choices

When life gets busy, we tend to grab what’s convenient, which is fine – but is it healthy? When you choose to live a heart healthy life style, you don’t have to go on a crazy diet, you simply need to discover healthier choices that will make the transition from unhealthy to healthy a little easier. When you’re making your kids lunch, make a heart healthy snack for yourself, that way it will be ready for you to grab and go. Want some heart healthy snack ideas? Click here!

2. Pay Attention To Your Body

Don’t underestimate unusual feelings or symptoms you may be having.  Chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, a dry cough, anxiety,  and other symptoms can be signs you need to pay attention to and may be pointing to heart disease.

3. Get Moving!

We can all take at least 30 minutes a day, right? Taking half an hour of moderate exercise for 5 days each week is good for your heart. Any activity that gets you moving and breaking a little sweat is good. And it’s also a good idea to get in the habit of breaking up long periods of sitting, whether at your desk, at work or at home watching tv. Get up and move here and there, your heart will thank you! Here are some ideas on how to be more active throughout your day.

4. Reduce Stress

We know this one is easier said than done, but whether it’s through exercise, meditation, treating yourself to a massage or simply taking some ‘me time’ – do something for YOU. Whatever it is that helps you de-stress, do it! Stress is not good for the heart, or any part of our body for that matter. Even if it’s just 10 minutes out of your day, do something to lower those stress levels. (Our client’s love their lash naps and use that as their de-stressing ‘me time’!)

5. Get Your Rest

Did you know that a full night’s sleep is important for the health of your heart? Well, it is! According to WebMD, one study showed that  young and middle-age adults who slept at least 7 hours a night had less calcium in their arteries (an early sign of heart disease) than those who slept 5 hours or less or those who slept 9 hours or more. And it needs to be quality sleep. Adults who get a true, good night’s sleep have healthier arteries than those who do not sleep well. Cick here for 10 tips to get more sleep!

6. Schedule Regular Check-Ups

Again, as women we’re always caring for others before ourselves, but how can we take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves? Getting your annual check-up gives you a chance to talk to your doctor about any concerns or symptoms and make sure you’re on the right track with your health. So next time your making an appointment for someone in your family, ask yourself, “Am I due for a check-up?” and if the answer is yes, schedule it ASAP!
